Welcome to Day 1 of our 14-day Summer Spotlight series at Rockwall Acting! We are kicking things off with the crown jewel of our summer: our full-scale production of The Sound of Music.

Whether your child is a seasoned performer or stepping onto the stage for the first time, this production is the ultimate way to build confidence and hone their craft. While our priority audition deadline was June 1st, we are moving full steam ahead into rehearsals! If you missed the cutoff, don’t panic: contact us immediately to see if there are any remaining ensemble spots or to get on the waitlist for this legendary show.

How to Help Your Child Shine in Production

Being part of a professional-level production involves more than just memorizing lines. To truly succeed, students need to focus on storytelling. According to industry experts, directors look for kids who understand their character's "why": what does Gretl want in this scene? Why is Liesl feeling rebellious? OnStage Blog notes that every role, even in the ensemble, tells a story.

1. Master the Rodgers & Hammerstein Style
The Sound of Music requires a classic, melodic vocal approach. We encourage students to practice with "legato" lines: smooth, connected notes: rather than the "pop" style used in modern musicals like Six.

2. Focus on Honest Acting
At Rockwall Acting, we teach kids to avoid "performing at" the audience. Instead, we focus on building confidence through honest reactions. Atlanta Children’s Theatre suggests that young actors should keep gestures natural and conversational to avoid looking over-rehearsed.

Not Into The Hills? Check Out Our Other Summer Camps!

  • Classic Adventures: Peter Pan and The Wizard of Oz.
  • Skill-Based Intensives: Dive deep into Improv, Film & TV acting (perfect for commercial work!), or Musical Theater technique.

Level Up with Summer Privates

Summer is the best time to bridge the gap between "good" and "great." We offer private lessons in Acting, Dance, and Voice to help students prepare for their next big role. Our instructors are industry professionals who bring real-world experience directly to Rockwall, Heath, and Forney. Lincroft Music emphasizes that regular vocal training makes every performance feel less scary and more fun.
