Auditions: Video auditions are due September 1, 2026. Students are asked to sing 16-32 measures of an uptempo song and a ballad. More details below…

Callbacks: In person callbacks on September 12th

Rehearsals: Starting on September 18th, students will rehearse on Fridays from 6:30-8:30 and on Saturdays from 10am – 1pm. *NOTE THAT REHEARSAL WILL BE FROM 1PM – 4PM ON SATURDAY 9/19 AND 9/26. There will be NO REHEARSAL from 10/9-10/10 due to Rockwall ISD Fall Break of November 20-28 due to Thanksgiving. Saturday rehearsal may be extended hours on 12/5 based on cast availability. Tech Week: in Addison, evenings the week of December 7 – December 10. 5:30pm – 10:00 pm. Performances Friday July 17: 7pm. Saturday July 18: 2pm & 7pm, Sunday July 19: 2pm. Mandatory strike after the Sunday show. *Additional rehearsals and costume fitting may be added to weekends so please list all conflicts when submitting your audition.  Conflicts can be accommodated when disclosed with audition submission ahead of time so please reach out the the studio if you have questions about making the schedule work for your family.

Tech Week: in Addison, evenings the week of December 7-10. Times could be 5:00pm – 10:00 pm, but will be communicated closer to time based on production needs.

Tickets: Tickets for the show will be on sale for $27.50 (no additional fees) at a later date with information to follow when available. Each cast member is responsible for selling a minimum of 10 tickets. This helps cover production costs and ensures a great show experience for everyone. Tickets can be purchased by family, friends, or the participant themselves and purchaser can select the cast member to associate their ticket. Any unsold tickets remaining after the final performance will result in an unsold-ticket recovery charge applied to your account.

 Frequently Asked Questions about Rockwall Acting Productions:

• What is the cost? Please see the performance fee section above. Upon registration, the full amount is obligated due to the nature of producing licensed shows.

• Why is the full amount non-refundable? Shows are an opportunity to learn and everyone often wants the same parts.  Our directors operate independently of the studio owners in casting the shows. This ensures they provide parts that meet students where they are on the growth pendulum.  Accordingly, if people “quit” because they didn’t get the part they want – it would be difficult to have a show.  You will find your child has an opportunity to grow through how they are cast, in ensemble, supporting roles, and leads. It’s a great life lesson to be a wonderful leader in a starring role, but it’s also a great life lesson to be the most joyful and enthusiastic “tree #4” there has ever been.

• How is my enrollment fee and tuition used? Putting on a production is a big undertaking. It involves a production team including a director, a choreographer, a music director, others that work with students at every rehearsal from auditions until the final performance. Our students put in over 70 hours of rehearsal from the first practice through tech week so the hourly rate per student is less than $10.  Additionally we must cover costs associated with licensing the show, renting the professional theater, building the set, lighting design, microphones and sound technicians, props, and more. Your tuition also includes MOST of your COSTUME!

• Will I have to purchase a costume? NOPE (except a couple of things).  All actors will need appropriate shoes (usually character or jazz shoes) and undergarments or leggings that parents will need to provide. We generally provide the main pieces but you may be asked to bring ancillary items from home if you have them (like a plain black t-shirt or something).

• Will I have to pay to watch the show? Tickets are required to watch the shows. This production does NOT include “comp” tickets for shows. Families can be offered comp tickets if they help with set building, tech booth, and other show needs. This is show specific and not determined if there is a need until closer to the production date.

• What additional money will I have to spend during the show? We try to be very transparent in our pricing. As mentioned above, you will need to make sure your actor has shoes, and any undergarments needed for their role (including tights and socks). You may also need some minor costume parts and makeup. Show tickets will need to be purchased. You will also need to make sure your student has food on double show days and long rehearsals. You can purchase an optional show t-shirt and that’s really ALL the extra fees that pop up.  Finally your actor may be provided microphones, lavaliers, body packs, and other equipment. Should this equipment be damaged from misuse there may be costs associated with replacement.

• How do you audition?

  • Information will be sent in email. Video auditions and callbacks are listed above. If you are unable to attend, video callbacks will be due by end of callback time that same day and not submitting or attending a callback may impact your role in the production.
  • Your student will need to pick out a ballad (slow song) and an up tempo song (faster, happy song). They need to sing about 16-20 bars from each of these songs. (that’s about 60-90 seconds). You can look on YouTube for the karaoke versions of these songs and rehearse them at home until you feel comfortable. Then, just record them on your phone or tablet and upload them to our audition submission form (link will be provided to you closer to the due date).
  • We do NOT recommend choosing any songs from this musical. Let us see your vocal talents on your favorite songs that are in the style of the song from the show. You will have an opportunity to at callbacks to show us what you can do with songs from this show.
  • Need help with your audition? Sign up for some private lessons! Our vocal and acting coaches will do everything from help with song selection, work on cleaning up things, and even record your video! 

• What are “callbacks”? About 3 days after the video audition deadline, you will get an email with the possible parts your child could play. There will be some scenes to read and some specific song segments to sing. They should practice these at home and try to feel as comfortable as possible. Then, students will meet at the studio and the directors will take it from there. Every director runs callbacks a little differently, but some how you will read and sing for select parts. It isn’t meant to be stressful or scary, but rather to see how voices blend and how students perform live.

• When are rehearsals? Rehearsals will be in Rockwall and will follow the schedule listed above. Tech week will be rehearsals every evening leading up to the show the week of the show in Addison.

• How does tech week work with the drive to Addison? Well…it takes a village. The week before opening night is difficult but necessary to get comfortable with the set and have several runs with lights and  costumes. However, theater is a great community full of parents who understand “busy” and are happy to help with carpools. We use a communication app called “Band” that also lets parents reach out for carpools and to communicate related to the rehearsals and show.

• What if I have conflicts with rehearsals or performances? We know how busy life gets, so please just list your known conflicts on the audition form and we will do our best to work around them.  Our team knowing in advance is vital for the success of the show and for the commitment of all those that are in it. Many roles can be double cast or given an understudy so that rehearsals can run smoothly for the rest of the cast, so we pride ourselves on finding a way for busy students to participate even with a few conflicts. If conflicts come up over the course of the show, they need to be discussed with the production team and communicated in writing to Rockwall Acting so that we can plan accordingly to have productive rehearsals and a beautiful finished product. Conflicts not mentioned during sign-ups that affect a performance can result in a reblocking fee, so please look ahead and list all known conflicts at the time of your audition submission.

• What if my student wants to only be in the ensemble? No problem! The ensemble is a fun place to experience a production! There is singing, dancing, and an inside joke or two that bond kiddos and make the process SO much fun! Just put that in your preference list of roles your child wants.

• Do I stay for rehearsal? Rehearsals are closed to parents and outside observers. Your children actually are more relaxed, and rehearsals are more productive without extra people watching. We also want you to be completely in awe of the set, the cast, and YOUR star when you see the performance for the first time.  We do not have a “parent viewing area” in our current location and are frequently using all the available space in the studio for productive and efficient rehearsals so there isn’t a spot that won’t interfere with the actors. Parents should use this time to run errands or relax at home or in their car. Should you have any concerns, please notify us and we can work with you to address the needs of your student.

• Will we receive a script for the show? Yes each student will receive a script. The scripts should be kept in good condition and will need to be returned at the end of the show (usually collected at the final performance). A fee of $75 will be assessed for unreturned scripts or scripts that are not in usable condition.

• How long should I be in classes at the studio before I do a production? There is no better time to start than now on classes and productions. Technique classes are extremely valuable to an actor. We feel acting is something that improves with practice and coaching. It is rare that a high level athlete achieves success without extra work and students who participate in our classes usually audition more confidently and feel better prepared for productions. However, any amount of time is the right time to become part of one of our shows. They are well run, very professional, and a ton of fun. So even if you are new, jump in and see if you were born to be in the spotlight!

• Do I have to volunteer? All actors and a family member will need to participate in strike (organization of costumes, props, and certain set pieces) after the final performance. There may be additional optional volunteer opportunities as ushers or back stage help and we appreciate your involvement when requested. 

• What if the show doesn’t meet minimum enrollment? Due to the minimum number of cast members required to effectively cover all the roles, should we not be able to produce the show, your registration will fee of $99 will remain in your account as a credit through for the remainder of the 2026-2027 season that may be applied to any of our other programs or productions. Should you withdraw from the show, no refunds will be given and you are still responsible for the full performance fee.
