Summer is almost here, and at Rockwall Acting, the stage is set for an unforgettable season! If you’re looking for things for kids in Rockwall this summer, you’ve probably noticed we have a lot going on. From our weekly summer camps featuring favorites like Moana, Peter Pan, and The Wizard of Oz, to our upcoming Sound of Music Jr. auditions (heads up: the deadline is June 1st!), there’s no shortage of spotlight moments.
But if your performer is ready to level up, you might be eyeing our Summer Intensives. But how do you choose? Let’s break down the three big ones: Improv, Film & TV, and Musical Theater.
1. Improv: The Ultimate Confidence Builder
If your child loves making people laugh or, conversely, is a bit shy and needs to break out of their shell, Improv is the way to go. Improv isn't just about being funny; it's about "yes, and-ing" life.
According to the North Texas Performing Arts, improv teaches kids to think on their feet and handle mistakes with grace: skills that are essential far beyond the stage. It’s perfect for kids who need to build quick-thinking skills and social confidence.

2. Film & TV: The Commercial Professional
Does your kid dream of being on Netflix or in a Disney Channel commercial? Our Film & TV intensive is a game-changer. Unlike the "big" energy of the stage, on-camera acting requires subtlety and technical precision.
Students learn to work with cameras, hit their marks, and understand the nuances of a professional set. This is a great fit for older kids (8-18) who are serious about the industry or want to master the art of the self-tape audition.

3. Musical Theater: The Triple Threat
For the kids who are always singing in the shower and dancing in the kitchen, the Musical Theater Intensive is calling. This is where we hone the "triple threat" skills: acting, singing, and dancing.
Moss Dance and Performing Arts Academy notes that musical theater is incredible for building empathy and teamwork, as students must work in harmony to bring a massive production to life. It’s high-energy, disciplined, and incredibly rewarding.

Which One is Right for Your Child?
- Choose Improv if they need to boost confidence and spontaneity.
- Choose Film & TV if they are interested in professional on-camera work.
- Choose Musical Theater if they love the spotlight and want to master multiple skills.
Can't decide? Many of our students mix and match or supplement their training with Summer Privates in voice, dance, or acting to get that one-on-one professional guidance.
As the Charlotte Academy of Music points out, theater education helps kids develop the focus and discipline they need for school and beyond.
