Synopsis
Disney’s Moana JR. is a 60-minute musical based on the 2016 Disney animated movie Moana, about an adventurous teenager who embarks on a daring mission across the Pacific Ocean to save her people. With the once-mighty demigod Maui as her unlikely companion, Moana sets sail to fulfill the quest of her ancestors and discover her own destiny. The musical features songs like “How Far I’ll Go”, “You’re Welcome”, and “Shiny”
Auditions: Please come to the first rehearsal on 1/14 prepared to sing a 1 minute song and act/read from a script (or have a short monologue memorized). On 1/16 students will get their parts in the show and get to work.
Performance Fee: $500 (Discounted to $425 If you are enrolled in 1 or more technique classes at Rockwall studio). $50 due at time of enrollment. (if for any reason we do not enroll enough students to put on this show, this $50 will remain in your account as a credit through May 2025). $200 charged 1/14/25. $250 (or $175 if enrolled in a technique class for January, February, March) charged 2/14/25.
Tickets: Tickets for the show will be on sale at a later date with information to follow when available.
- This show will NOT conflict with Wizard of Oz or studio technique classes and students are encouraged to participate in all programs! Technique classes are vital for growth of skills that are utilized in performances.
- What is the cost?
- The cost for the production of $500. We do have incredible discounts available for students also enrolled in a technique class in Rockwall during Jan-March. The price for these students is $425 and is applied by the studio management on the final payment for the show. Upon registration, the full amount is obligated due to the nature of producing licensed shows.
- How is the money collected?
- A $50 fee is required at the time of sign-up. Additional fees of $200 will be withdrawn the first week of classes and the remainder of the tuition will be charged on 2/15/25.
- Why is the full amount non-refundable?
- Shows are an opportunity to learn and everyone wants the same parts. Our directors operate independently of the studio owners in casting the shows. This ensures they provide parts that meet students where they are on the growth pendulum. Accordingly, if people “quit” because they didn’t get the part they want – it would be difficult to have a show. You will find your child has an opportunity to grow through how they are cast, in ensemble, role characters, and leads.
- What does the money go for?
- Putting on a production is a big undertaking. It involves a production team including a director, a choreographer, a music director, and others that work with students at every rehearsal from auditions until the final performance. Additionally we must cover costs associated with licensing the show, theater, insurance, practice facilities, set, props, and more. Your students will be working with our professional team for over 40 hours regardless of their role in the production!
- The cost of the show also goes to our backstage crew that work hard to build the set, run the lights and sound board, and generally do everything during the show to make sure your children feel confident and look great.
- Will I have to purchase a costume?
- Maybe. All actors will need appropriate shoes and undergarments or leggings that parents will need to provide. Unlike our main stage productions where full costumes are provided, studio series productions may require your purchasing additional pieces. For additional pieces, we have a large costume closet to pull from, but in our local productions, parents may be asked to purchase some components of their costume. You will be notified of this by early March with plenty of time to purchase a costume that our production team can approve.
- Will I have to pay to watch the show?
- Tickets will be sold for $15 each for adults and children. We may have some opportunities to usher or help backstage that would allow some parents to be present for the show at no additional fee. This production does NOT include “comp” tickets for shows.
- What additional money will I have to spend during the show?
- As mentioned above, you will need to make sure your actor has shoes, and any undergarments needed for their role (including tights and socks). You may also need some costume parts. Show tickets will need to be purchased. You will also need to make sure your student has food on double show days. Finally, you can purchase an optional show t-shirt and that’s really ALL the extra fees that pop up.
- How do you audition?
- Your student will need to pick out a song to sing that is about 1 minute for the first rehearsal. That’s it!
- What if I can’t make the first rehearsal? How will I try out?
- Let us know in advance and you can submit a video addition.
- When are rehearsals?
- Rehearsals will be Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30-8pm starting on January 14th and ending after the show on April 5th. There will be no rehearsals on 3/18 or 3/20.
- What if I have conflicts with rehearsals or a performance?
- We know how busy life gets, so please just list your known conflicts on the audition form and we will do our best to work around them. Our team knowing in advance is vital for the success of the show and for the commitment of all those that are in it.
- What if my student just wants to be in the ensemble?
- The ensemble is a fun place to experience a production! There is singing, dancing, and an inside joke or two that bond kiddos and make the process SO much fun! Just put that in your preference list of roles your child wants.
- Do I stay for rehearsal?
- Rehearsals are closed to parents and outside observers. Your children actually are more relaxed and rehearsals are more productive without people watching. We want you to be completely in awe of the set, the cast, and YOUR star when you see the performance for the first time.
- Will we receive a script for the show?
- Yes each student will receive a script. The scripts should be kept in good condition and will need to be returned at the end of the show (usually collected at the final performance). A fee of $50 will be assessed for unreturned scripts or scripts that are not in usable condition.
- How long should I be in classes at the studio before I do a production?
- There is no better time to start than now on classes and productions. Technique classes are extremely valuable to an actor. We feel acting is something that improves with practice and coaching. It is rare that a high level athlete achieves success without extra work and classes are exactly that. (This is why we offer a show discount to students who take technique classes) However, any amount of time is the right time to become part of one of our productions. They are well done, very professional, and SO much fun. This is really what the technique classes are all about so even if you are new, jump on in and see if you were born to be in the spotlight!
- Do I have to volunteer?
- All actors and a family member will need to participate in strike (organization of costumes, props, and certain set pieces) after the final performance. There may be additional optional volunteer opportunities as ushers or back stage help and we appreciate your involvement when requested.
